About this Project

The City of Dubuque received funding for improvements to the 17th Street and West Locust Street Storm Sewer to prevent the ongoing flooding that has plagued that area. Langman Construction is leading the project that is located in downtown Dubuque, Iowa. Wieser Concrete produced the 1,113′ of 10′ x 5′ box culvert that runs along 17th Street from Elm Street to Heeb Street. Langman requested 6′ sections for ease of handling, which came out to a total of 190 pieces. Brian Gaul from Langman Construction had this to say when asked why they chose our product, “Wieser Concrete had the lowest price on bid day and was able to produce the box culvert according to Langman’s schedule.

We have had great success using materials from Wieser Precast and felt Wieser Concrete would have the same level of quality and production rate.” The overall project includes the reconstruction of the street and the relocation of all underground utilities along the entire length of the affected storm sewer within the street right-of-way. Installing a large box culvert down the middle of residential streets proved challenging because of the utility relocation and traffic in the area. However, the installation process went smoothly, starting in late July and ending on November 2nd. Future projects will extend this large storm sewer to prevent residential flooding in other surrounding areas. The estimated completion date of the entire project is 2021.
