Take a New Look at Precast
In the past, precast concrete was primarily considered a basic, utilitarian material. It wasn't considered cutting edge or versatile for a wide range of applications. Since then, we have redefined our product, and turned it into the total package, with attributes you might not expect.

Experimental Precast Panel Concrete Repair Time Lapse
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation hired Ayres Associates to provide construction observation on a first-of-its-kind project in 2013 to repair approximately 500 concrete joints along Interstate 94 near Hudson, Wisconsin. The result is longer-lasting repairs that allow traffic back onto the lanes more quickly. Roughly 210 precast panels were used during overnight repairs, and 300 joints were repaired using cast-in-place panels. The quick precast panel process was used primarily on the center lanes of the interstate, on which two lanes of traffic closure is necessary for repairs. The Fort Miller Co. and Wieser Concrete supplied materials for the project, and Cornerstone USA LLC was the prime contractor. Automated Rebar Machine - New at Wieser Concrete
As the Wieser Concrete plant in Portage has expanded, so has its technology. In order to save time, money, and material, we installed a new Schnell Coil 20 3D rebar fabrication machine. The Coil 20 is a bi-directional automatic stirrup bender that produces stirrups and cut-to-size bars using rebar ranging from 3/8 inch (#3) to 3/4 inch (#6) diameter. Prior to the upgrade, rebar would need to be shipped in 20-foot sections. However, the new machine is designed to handle 3.5-ton spools with an auto-rebar changer, which will eliminate waste and reduce rebar costs. Virtually all rebar will now be fabricated in-house and allow for more customization with reinforcement. The machine is driven by digital electric servomotors instead of hydraulic power, which makes it an eco-friendly fabrication solution. Other advantages include increased operator safety due to the automatic operation, reduced lead times, and more accurate finished rebar.

Wieser Concrete Maiden Rock Plant 2 Addition
Wieser Concrete in Maiden Rock is home to two production plants, one of which produces dry-cast slats daily. In the slat production building, there is also a team working on wet-cast products such as beams and posts, headwalls, and custom projects. In order to free up space for both crews and separate the noise to help with safety and efficiency, we expanded the plant with a 48' W x 200' L x 22' H addition. The new building serves as a dedicated slat production area and the existing area will ironically serve as a noise-abatement wall production space for the near future. Precast concrete wall panels for the building were produced and installed by Wieser Concrete. Wieser Brothers completed the concrete floor before A&J Construction installed the roof. A new Coote Rotascreed + Pallet Handler System was installed in the addition, while two 15-ton bridge cranes were installed in the existing plant.

CASE STUDY: Installation of Truck Stop BioBarrier HSMBR System
With great anticipation in 2018, Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores purchased 2 land sites in Illinois for the development of its newest convenience stations.
The following video is the installation of the wastewater treatment plant, the BioMicrobics® BioBarrier® HSMBR® System in Wadsworth, Illinois. Construction on this new convenience station began early in 2019.
This BioBarrier® HSMBR® System is designed for larger commercial, high strength flows - perfect for the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores! The HSMBR® "6-pack" configuration allows for easier "plug & Play" installation and maintenance.
The BioBarrier® system comes equipped with a new smart, touch screen controller.
The tanks, made by Wieser Concrete Products (www.wieserconcrete.com) is set in the ground before our BioBarrier HSMBR commercial wastewater treatment system gets installed directly in the tanks.
BihlerTech Inc (www.biomicrobicsillinois.com): "A 7700 gallon trash tank with six 8" SaniTEEs; then, two 38,500 gallon tanks for the BioBarrier HSMBR system, followed by a 10,000 sludge storage tank. And finally, a 3000 gallon tank to pump filtrate to the fire storage tank and surface discharge. No need for any disinfection, the system is designed to handle 10,000 gallons per day normal flow with a 15,000 gallon per day peak flow of greater than 1000 mg/l BOD5 influent and removes 99.9% of the contaminants."
This "scaled up" version of the certified NSF®/ANSI® Standard 350 for water reuse, the BioBarrier® HSMBR® adheres to strict water quality guidelines offering more opportunities for water recycling.
DID YOU KNOW?
A Truck Stop wastewater influent can be anything combining a gas station, restaurant(s), grocery store, rest area with showers and/or a campground?

BioBarrier HSMBR Love's Travel Plaza Project Presentation
LOVE’S TRAVEL PLAZA WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
Project Profile
________________________________________
Location: Wadsworth, Illinois
Size:
• Two 38,000-gallon BioBarrier® Treatment Tanks
• 10,000-gallon waste sludge tank
• 7,700-gallon trash tank
• 3,000-gallon water storage tank
• 48-inch diameter wet well
Purpose:
To provide a wastewater treatment system for Love’s Travel Plaza and adjacent to Arby’s.
Details:
“Service was exceptional and the quality was second to none. After 70 years in the industry, I can honestly say they run a class act and will definitely recommend and use again in the future,” stated Mike Stark, President of Stark & Son Trenching, Inc.
A treatment system was needed for a new Love’s Travel Stop and Arby’s in Wadsworth, Illinois. The project called for two 38,000 gallon BioBarrier HSMBR tanks, a 10,000-gallon waste sludge tank, a 7,700-gallon trash tank, a 3,000-gallon water storage tank, and a 48″ diameter wet well. Mike mentioned, “Wieser Concrete was chosen to produce the concrete components because of quality, experience, the magnitude of the project, and previous experience with BioMicrobics.”
Installation of the tanks was completed in just five hours by Stark & Son Trenching, which included wrapping the tanks for infiltration. The treatment system was designed to accommodate the strict water quality requirements and the immense size of the project. Developed by BioMicrobics, the BioBarrier® High Strength Membrane Bioreactor (HSMBR) cleans the wastewater with the effluent discharging into a detention pond, which will also be used if sprinkler water is needed.
The membranes and processes used in this advanced system act as an impenetrable physical barrier for nearly all common pollutants found in wastewater today. When asked how the overall project went, Mike Stark said, “Working with Wieser Concrete was definitely one to put in the memory book. I was very impressed with the organization, quality, scheduling, and crane operator. If work continues in this fashion, Love’s will have water quality results that will make heads turn.” The timeline for the entire project is approximately two weeks once all other components are delivered. ~
