About this Project

Down in The Sunshine State, TRS Range Services was in charge of renovating an existing pistol and rifle firearms training range. The scope of work included the installation of a granular rubber bullet trap (GRBT), turning target system, ballistic concrete walls, target pad and ballistic knee wall, and drainage for range stormwater. The new range, designed by MBV Engineering, will span 120′ wide by 150′ long. TRS contracted Wieser Concrete to manufacture and deliver the 133 LF of 16′ tall precast concrete T-panels for the ballistic walls. Shelly Gonzalez from TRS Range Services said, “TRS chose to use Wieser’s ballistic concrete walls to meet the client’s requirement for an erected ballistic barrier that would prevent projectiles from escaping the surface danger zone (SDZ).

The Wieser wall panel is the only concrete product on the market that can provide the necessary protection within the limited footprint for the wall.” Ballistic concrete walls were placed over the dirt berms to reach the required height above the SDZ. Working around an existing range, there was a limited footprint within which TRS could work. In addition, the client required the use of weather-resistant materials built to withstand the humidity and storm conditions typical in the Florida climate. “The Wieser Concrete wall provided all the necessary properties to successfully complete the project on time and within budget, while also keeping the site footprint small and installation procedure simple,” mentioned Gonzalez. The project began in December 2020 and was completed on January 22, 2021.
