About this Project

MnDOT determined a MnPass Express Lane in each direction would provide the best long-term congestion relief on the highway near Blaine and Roseville, MN. I-35W connects greater Minnesota and the northern suburbs to downtown Minneapolis.

MnDOT’s traffic analysis completed for this study area shows that the MnPASS alternative serves about 10% more people daily, provides free-flowing travel for 75% more people, and significantly improves travel times and trip reliability for transit riders and others using the MnPASS lanes. Our median barriers will be installed by Ames Construction for the temporary widening of northbound I-35W where the southbound traffic shifts to existing northbound lanes. Construction is expected to be completed in 2021 with some work occurring at night.
